Jake Amy’s "Hot Chicken" presents an entirely new and cutting-edge sub genre of jazz, fusing jazz-style melodies with noise rock textures and heavy metal energy. This composition is built from foundational Afro-Cuban rhythmic claves and African polyrhythmic language, and depicts a whirlwind of lucid chaos. "Hot Chicken" showcases what is possible when analogue and digital technologies collide.
"Hot Chicken" was written in late October 2020 by Melbourne-based pianist Jake Amy. The composition depicts Jake's journey transitioning to a vegan lifestyle. Spicy fried chicken was Jake's favourite social food. Jake is currently chicken sober.
We acknowledge that this work was created on stolen land. We pay our respects to its true owners, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We would like to extend that thanks to all First Nations peoples who have been caring for this beautiful land for over 80,000 years. It is thanks to their knowledge, wisdom and tireless work that we can find comfort and inspiration on this land. We acknowledge that this music stems from the struggles of black American communities. 10% of all profit will be donated to Black Girl Magik, a collective of artists and community organisers who host workshops and events for women and girls from the African diaspora.
